Legacy Construction Hosts Fresno State Students for Hard Hat Tours

Legacy Construction recently partnered with Fresno State to host our first-ever hard hat tours, welcoming Construction Management students to the United Health Centers project on Cesar Chavez Avenue in Fresno. Two class groups visited the site on the same day, giving students a rare opportunity to experience an active construction environment firsthand.
These visits gave students in CM 17 – Construction Materials & Basic Building Systems – the chance to see beyond lectures and textbooks. For many, it was their first time stepping onto a live construction site, making the experience both exciting and eye-opening.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The course introduces students to the fundamentals of construction materials and building systems, and these tours are the perfect complement — bringing classroom learning to life with real-world experience, from concrete and framing to MEP systems and final finishes.
Each 45-minute session combined safety, storytelling, and real-world insight. Gina, Project Manager, opened with a safety briefing and overview before joining Craig, Chad, and Ara in sharing their perspectives on what it takes to deliver a project — from day-to-day field operations to big-picture planning and problem-solving.
Together, the team highlighted how a project moves from the ground up and answered questions along the way, keeping the tour interactive. Students ended the visit with a walkthrough of key areas and an open Q&A, leaving with a clearer picture of what construction careers look like in practice.
Building the Next Generation
As Legacy’s first time hosting Fresno State students, the tours marked an exciting milestone in connecting education with industry. By sharing stories, highlighting challenges, and encouraging questions, the Legacy team made construction approachable and memorable for students just beginning their careers.
We’re excited to continue hosting more tours at additional active job sites in the future and to keep building opportunities for students to experience construction firsthand. A big thank-you to Fresno State for partnering with us on this effort — together, we’re helping prepare the next generation of builders for the Central Valley.
